What is a Philly Cheesesteak?
According to most food sites, the sandwich was created by a Philadelphian named Pat Olivieri, a hot dog cart owner, in 1930. He wanted to eat something different, so his brother went to the butcher and brought back chopped beef. Pat cooked it with some onions and placed it in an Italian roll, which would become the base of the sandwich. Then, in 1940, a manager at Pat’s King of Steaks added Provolone cheese and the famous Philly Cheesesteak was born.

How to Make Philly Cheesesteak
Step 1. Before cooking, thinly slice the meat and vegetables. Then salt and pepper the meat. Set aside.
Step 2. Next, heat olive oil in a large cast iron skillet over medium-high heat. When the oil begins to smoke, add the onions, bell peppers, and Anaheim chili and cook for about 10 minutes.
Anaheim Chili
Adding Anaheim chili won’t make this spicy. It adds a hint of sweetness without the spicy heat of most peppers.
Step 3. Add beef and cook for 3-4 minutes, tossing until most of the meat is cooked.
Step 4. Reduce heat to medium-low. Stir in Worcestershire sauce and Provolone cheese. Continue to stir and mix until the cheese becomes stringy and melts. Turn off the heat.
Step 5. Optional for toasted hoagie rolls – While the cheese is melting, start the broiler to toast the hoagie or bollilo rolls. Spread a generous amount of mayonnaise onto each hoagie roll being served and toast under the broiler for 1-2 minutes or until the rolls are slightly brown at the edges. If you prefer not to broil the rolls, just add a bit of mayonnaise onto each roll being served.
Step 4. Fill each hoagie foll with about 3/4 cup of the meat mixture. Enjoy!
