Ingredients – Mummy Pizza Pockets

  • 2 cans Pillsbury Crescent Roll Sheets – A minimum of two cans will be needed if you plan on making 6-8 mummy pizza pockets. One can will make 3-4 mummy pizza pockets.
  • Shredded cheese – I used about 1/3 cup of Mexican cheese blend, but use what you like.
  • Pizza sausage – Use about 5 pizza sausages per mummy pizza pocket or substitute with pepperoni.
  • Pizza sauce – About 1 1/2 to 2 tsp. of pizza sauce is used per pizza pocket. Use remaining sauce for dipping.
  • Olives – This is used sliced olives to create the mummy pizza pocket eyes.
  • Eggs + water – For egg wash and to help brown the dough.

Supplies to Make Mummy Pizza Pockets

  • Baking sheet – A baking sheet large enough to cook the pizza pockets or burgers. The size will depend on the number of pizza pockets/burgers you are making.
  • Parchment paper or Silpat- Helps the pizza pockets from sticking to the baking sheet.
  • Spatula or tongs – Needed to remove the mummy pizza pockets from the baking sheet.
  • Knife or Pizza Cutter – Needed to create the round circle cuts for the mummy pockets. I prefer a pizza cutter as it makes cutting strips easy.
  • Round cutter or large cup – 3″ for mummy pizzas (or larger) and one larger than the burger patties after cooking (I used a large cup).
  • Rolling pin – Use to roll out leftover dough pieces to create more mummy pockets and bandages.
  • Silpat mat – Use as a work surface when cutting the dough and to roll out leftover dough pieces.
  • Pastry brush – To apply the egg wash to the mummy pizza pockets or burgers dough.
  • Bowl – For mixing the egg wash.
  • Fork or small whisk – To whisk the egg wash.
  • Optional – baking cooling rack to cool down the pizza pockets.

How to Make Mummy Pizza Pockets

Cutting Dough

Cut mummy pizza pocket dough circles.
Dough circles on parchment lined baking sheet.

Step 1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or Silpat. Next, roll out one of the crescent roll dough sheets on a Silpat or non-stick surface. Cut out 6 – 3″ circles with a round cutter. Try to get at least two rows of 3″ circles. Move the cut circles to a parchment lined baking sheet.

Cut mummy pizza pocket strips.
Combine remaining dough and cut into strips.

Step 2. Cut 1/2″ strips from the remaining uncut dough. Gather any dough pieces, combine them, and use a rolling pin to flatten the dough (make it to the same thickness as the dough sheet) to cut more strips.

Step 3. Onto 3 of the cut circles, place about 1 1/2 to 2 tsp. of pizza sauce. Then, place a bit of cheese onto the sauce. Next, place about 5 pizza sausages onto the cheese. Note: Make sure to keep the fillings in the center, keeping the outside edge clean so it can be sealed.

Assembling the Mummy Face

Step 4. Stretch another dough circle over the pizza filling, making sure to push the edges of the dough pieces together to seal. After the edges are sealed, place two sliced olives on top for the mummy’s eyes. Then, take some dough strips and crisscross them over the top, trimming to fit the mummy face. Again, make sure to press down the edges of the strips to the dough circle to secure the edges in place.

Step 5. Repeat cutting out the circles and creating the mummy faces with the second crescent roll sheet. There should be 6-8 mummy faces on the baking sheet. Note: Two faces may be smaller than the others.

Storing and Reheating Mummy Pizza Pockets

Mummy Pizza Pockets can be kept for up to 4-5 days in an airtight container in the fridge. To reheat leftovers, place in the microwave for 1-2 minutes on high OR at air fry at 350°F for 5-7 minutes (adjust time to your air fryer). Note: While it is faster to reheat in the microwave, it will lose the crispy crust. Since all air fryers vary, the reheat time may need to be adjusted to prevent over browning when reheating.

Freezing Mummy Pizza Pockets

To freeze, wrap completely cooled mummy pizza pockets in plastic wrap. Then, place into an airtight Ziploc bag, making sure to push out all the air. To reheat from frozen, place in the microwave for about 3-4 minutes.

Hope you have a happy spooky season and enjoy this fun way to eat a hand pizza for Halloween!
