Pinterest Tested 17

Are you ready for Pinterest Tested 17?! This time, I tested out two recipes and one home tip. Keep reading to see the results of each pin.

All Natural and Sneaky way to Freshen a Room @The Bold AbodePeppermint Room Freshner

I’ve seen a lot of homemade air fresheners on Pinterest lately and this one from The Bold Abode seemed to be one of the easiest to do. It’s basically stacking some cotton pads and soaking the top pad with peppermint extract. I actually mixed it up by using some peppermint extract and peppermint essential oil.

The results:

After soaking the cotton pads with peppermint, I placed the container in my downstairs half bathroom. After about 15 minutes, I came back for a scent test and the entire bathroom was scented with an extremely strong scent of peppermint. In fact, the peppermint scent even helped mask the scent of poo, which is a definite plus in my book.

The only downside is that the peppermint smell can be overwhelming on the first day, especially in a small room. If used in a large room it will probably be fine. Also, the original post doesn’t mention how long the scent lasts, but I noticed the scent lasts for 4-5 days before a few more peppermint oil drops need to be added to the pad.

Overall, I think this is a great alternative to using plug-in scents and candles. I’m even planning on trying this with other essential oil scents.

Homemade Strawberry Pie Filling @Inside BruCrew Life Homemade Strawberry Pie Filling

It’s strawberry season in Southern California and I’m all about making all things with strawberries at the moment. Since I had some strawberries in the freezer from our strawberry picking, I decided to make some strawberry pie filling.

I chose the homemade strawberry pie filling on Inside BruCrew Life with over 10,000 pins. The only thing that I omitted was the strawberry Jell-O since it seems like it was only added into the recipe for color.

The results:

I was really pleased with the outcome of this recipe and I no longer have any reason to buy canned strawberry filling. This recipe is really simple and tasty. It literally only takes about 20 minutes to make a fresh batch of this filling. Definitely a keeper!

Strawberry Cheesecake Turnovers @The Chic Site

Strawberry Cheesecake Turnovers

My family loves eating turnovers and I love cheesecake, which is why I decided to test out the strawberry cheesecake turnover recipe @The Chic Site.

The results:

Be warned, do not follow the pictures on the site when mixing the cream cheese (read the instructions) and when filling the pastry. The cream cheese bowl shows two cream cheese blocks and two eggs, but the recipe calls for one block of cream cheese and one egg for the mix. Because I’m a visual person, I made the mistake of dumping both eggs into the bowl, which resulted in a runny cream cheese mix. Luckily, I had another block of cream cheese and added it to the mix to tighten up, but it was still a little thin. I also place a good amount of filling on the pastry, like shown in the photos, and the filling spilled out when I tried to seal it.

Other than me not reading the instructions, the pastry turned out really well. Everyone liked the flavor of the pastry and said it was a keeper.
