Easy Cinnamon Doughnuts

It’s the holiday season, which means it’s time to indulge in a little bit (or a lot) of the holiday season goodies! Today, I’m sharing a super easy cinnamon doughnut recipe that my mother-in-law would make for all of her kids. With 7 kids, the budget was tight and she would make these cinnamon doughnuts as a special treat for holiday occasions. I know this recipe brings back fond memories for my husband and since my mother-in-law is no longer with us, I wanted to continue the tradition of making these for our kids too!

This recipe only uses 3-ingredients – store bought biscuits, cinnamon, and sugar. That’s it! Super simple and easy for a quick treat. The only drawback is that this has to be made fresh and served warm. DO NOT make these ahead of time or you’ll have hard chewy doughnuts. Now, on to the recipe…

How to make cinnamon doughnuts using biscuit dough, cinnamon, and sugar.

Ingredients

  • 2 tubes buttermilk biscuits
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • oil

Instructions

  1. Add enough oil to a pot to have at least 1" to 1 1/2" of oil. Heat oil on medium heat until the oil reaches 300°F to 325°F.
  2. While the oil is heating up, mix together the sugar and cinnamon in a large bowl/pan. Set aside. Open the biscuit tubes and layout all the biscuits onto parchment paper. Punch a 1/2" hole into each biscuit with your fingers or use a cupcake corer.
  3. Add biscuits to the heated oil and cook until one side is golden brown and flip over. Cook until both sides are golden brown. Remove from the oil and drop into sugar/cinnamon mixture to coat. Serve immediately and warm. DO NOT make these ahead of time.

Notes

Easy cinnamon doughnuts using premade store bought biscuits, sugar, and cinnamon. Must be served fresh and hot. Do not make ahead of time or the doughnuts will be hard and chewy.
