Earlier this week I posted Bunny Bait gift bag toppers with a recipe that was bird-friendly. That version was for the kids to sprinkle around the yard for the Easter bunny. But this sweet and salty bunny bait is a treat for everyone to eat and enjoy during the spring season.

Sweet and Salty Bunny Bait

Sweet and salty bunny bait ingredients

Ingredients

  • 12 cups popped popcorn
  • 4 cups mini pretzels
  • 1 cups coated chocolate candies, spring colored
  • 2 cups Peeps cereal (substitute Cheerios for a less sweet bunny bait or Fruit Loops)
  • 12 oz. white chocolate melts, melted per package directions
  • 1/4 tsp. fine popcorn salt (optional)
  • 3 T. pastel jammies sprinkles (optional)

Kitchen Supplies:

How to Make Sweet and Salty Bunny Bait

Step 1. Pop the popcorn according to the package directions. Next, add 12 cups of popped corn to a large mixing bowl, making sure to remove any unpopped kernels.

Step 2. Add white chocolate melts to a microwave safe bowl. Melt according to the package directions.

Mix popcorn with melted white chocolate.

Step 3. Add melted white chocolate into the popcorn. Gently toss to evenly coat all the popcorn.

Mix in pretzels, candy, and cereal to bunny bait popcorn.

Step 4. While the white chocolate is still ‘wet’, add the pretzels and candies. Continue to gently toss to coat. Last, add in the cereal and toss to coat. Note: Add the Peeps cereal last to preserve the color from getting coated with white chocolate. If using Cheerios, it can be added at the same time as the pretzels and candies.

Step 5. Immediately dump the mixture onto a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper and spread out. Sprinkle on pastel or spring jammies sprinkles (optional) and popcorn salt all over the top. Let the mixture harden before breaking it up and storing it in an airtight container or placing it in gift bags.
