How to Put Together DIY Chinese New Year Money Holders
Step 1. Download the Chinese New Year Money Holder Templates. Note: These templates are for personal use only and should not be copied or sold.
- Cutting by hand >>> PDF Chinese New Year Money Holder Templates.
- Using Cut Machine >>> Cut Files for Silhouette.
Step 2. If using a cut machine (I use a Silhouette), upload the cut files into the cut machine and send them to print onto cardstock with the cut registration marks. If cutting by hand, print the files onto cardstock. Tip: Make sure to check the paper size to 8.5″ x 11″ settings and blade settings before cutting on a cut machine.
Step 3. For the cut machine, place the printed money holder paper onto the cutting mat, load into the cut machine, and cut. If using a scissors, cut along the outside of the money holder and the hanging tab area.
Step 4. Note: These steps may be slightly different depending on the type of money dome you use. The domes I used have a separate self-adhesive that must be placed onto the bottom of the plastic money dome. Once it’s attached, the center portion is removed. Then, the rolled money is placed inside of the holder. Finally, remove the yellow protective film and place the dome onto the money holder card. Optional – Add ribbon to the top of the money holder and it’s ready to gift!
DIY Chinese New Year money holders are a fantastic way to express your creativity while celebrating this joyous festival. Whether you choose to use a traditional red envelope or opt for these dragon-themed money holders, it will surely bring joy to the lucky recipient(s). So gather your materials and have fun making these money holders to spread good fortune and prosperity during the Chinese New Year!
