Thrifty Craft Paint Storage – January Thrift Store Decor Upcycle Challenge

It’s a New Year and a new Thrift Store Decor Upcycle Challenge! We took a few months off for the holidays, but we are back to show you more upcycled thrift ideas! This time I have joined forces with even more bloggers to show you tons of thrifty upcycle ideas! And my contribution is a thrifty craft paint storage.

The Rules:

  • Upcycle an item(s) from a thrift store, resale store, or garage sale into a new piece of decor.
  • There’s no monthly theme.
  • There’s no budget to stick to.

If you’re a craftaholic, you know one of the hardest things to organize is acrylic paint. I had my paint bottles stuffed into two plastic shoe bins. And while the shoes bins worked at keeping the paint together, it was difficult to see all the colors. Not to mention, it was impossible to keep similar paint colors together as the bottles always moved around the box – definitely not efficient storage.

Unfinished thrift store buy

So when I came across this $1.99 ‘what-ya-ma-call-it’ unit at SAVERS with divided cubbies, I knew it was the perfect craft paint storage unit.

Really, there was nothing wrong with the unit ‘as-is’, so I didn’t have to do anything to it. But since I’m a crafter and can’t leave well enough alone, I decided to spray Rust-Oleum Oil Rubbed Bronze over the piece.

Craft Paint Storage

And this is the result – L.O.V.E it! I can finally see all my paint colors and it’s so much easier to grab the colors I need. It’s currently sitting on my craft table, but I may add hooks to hang on the wall.

What would you have used this unit for?

And now for more thrifty goodness!

This is brilliant, and the bottles fit perfect, so much easier to see the colors this way!

I have all my craft paint in drawers, but the ease of finding the right color this way is awesome! Nicely done.

I love how you looked at the original piece and saw it holding your paints! If I ever come across something like this, I’ll have to pick it up. Although my paint collection isn’t as impressive 😉 Pinning & sharing!

Great idea and I like that they are stacked and you can see the color. Very clever! I have mine on a large thrift store narrow shelf thing my daughter used to keep her nail polish on.

What a great idea. It looks like a work of art with all the different colors. I just have my paints in a plastic bin and I need to do something different. Thanks for the inspiration.

What a perfect solution to the craft paint storage program. I was looking for a particular color the other day and managed to dump the drawer on the floor. I need this.

My craft area is semi-organized, but it’s a work in progress. My biggest issues is not adding anymore stuff to my stash.

So clever! Great idea to paint it the darker color so that the paint colors really stand out. I keep my paints in plastic shoe bins, too. Now I’ll have to look for a more creative way to store them. 🙂

Thanks. The plastic shoe bins worked to keep them together, but I always had to look through them all to find the colors I needed. This way, I can easily see them.

Great idea for craft paint storage. I really like the way you have to bottoms facing so the colors are so easy to find.

For my spray paint collection I used a Pine 24-Bottle Wine Rack someone was throwing away. At the time I didn’t know what I would use it for but when I went to spray paint it a pretty color it dawned on me to just use it to store my spray paints!
