Welcome to the June Dollar Store Craft Challenge Blog Hop! I’ve joined with a few other bloggers to share fun crafts made from items found at the dollar store. On my last visit to the dollar store, there were a lot of patriotic items and with July 4th coming up, I decided to share a tutorial on how to make a DIY Giant Pool Noodle Firecracker Decoration.

Difficulty: Easy

Use a Dollar Store Pool Noodle to create a fun DIY Giant Pool Noodle Firecracker Decoration for July 4th, Memorial Day, or any Patriotic event.

Materials

  • 1 pool noodle for each bundle of firecrackers
  • tape
  • utility knife or craft saw
  • wide ribbon for center of firecracker (I used white, but wanted the patriotic printed ribbons Unfortunately, everywhere was sold out! If you find some, use that instead.)
  • blue curling ribbon or other decorative accent
  • star wire garland
  • pipe cleaners - optional
  • washi tape - optional
  • small ball point needles - optional

Tools

  • Scissors
  • Wire Cutter - optional

Instructions

  1. Mark, tape, and cut the pool noodle Mark and cut the pool noodle into approximately 18″, 15″, and 13″ pieces. Feel free to customize to your own size too! I have also cut these pieces in two to make smaller firecracker bundles. Tip – wrap tape around the pool noodle to use as a guide to cut a straight line around it.
  2. DIY Giant Pool Noodle Firecracker ribbon Tape the 3 cut pool noodles together. Wrap thick ribbon over the tape to hide it and tape in place. Wrap curling ribbon or other decorative accent over the wide ribbon and tape in place. Tip - If tape doesn't hold the ribbon on, try using mini ball head needles.
  3. Wire star garland for firecracker fire Create loops with the wire garland and bundle together with the wire garland at the bottom. Cut the unblundled end into loops to resemble firecracker spray and stuff into the tops of the pool noodles.
  4. DIY Giant Pool Noodle Firecracker Decoration This is what it will look like once it's all assembled.
  5. DIY Pool Noodle Firecracker Here’s an updated 2021 Version. I used one pool noodle to create two smaller firecrackers and added a bit more embellishments. For the tall firecracker, I used red glitter tape to make stripes (hard to see in the photo, but IRL it’s perfect). The middle firecracker has silver spots and the smallest firecracker is decorated with tinsel pipe cleaners. Remember, you can decorate these any way you like, so get creative!
