Welcome to the June Dollar Store Craft Challenge Blog Hop! I’ve joined with a few other bloggers to share fun crafts made from items found at the dollar store. On my last visit to the dollar store, there were a lot of patriotic items and with July 4th coming up, I decided to share a tutorial on how to make a DIY Giant Pool Noodle Firecracker Decoration.

Use a Dollar Store Pool Noodle to create a fun DIY Giant Pool Noodle Firecracker Decoration for July 4th, Memorial Day, or any Patriotic event.
Materials
- 1 pool noodle for each bundle of firecrackers
- tape
- utility knife or craft saw
- wide ribbon for center of firecracker (I used white, but wanted the patriotic printed ribbons Unfortunately, everywhere was sold out! If you find some, use that instead.)
- blue curling ribbon or other decorative accent
- star wire garland
- pipe cleaners - optional
- washi tape - optional
- small ball point needles - optional
Tools
- Scissors
- Wire Cutter - optional
Instructions
- Mark and cut the pool noodle into approximately 18″, 15″, and 13″ pieces. Feel free to customize to your own size too! I have also cut these pieces in two to make smaller firecracker bundles. Tip – wrap tape around the pool noodle to use as a guide to cut a straight line around it.
- Tape the 3 cut pool noodles together. Wrap thick ribbon over the tape to hide it and tape in place. Wrap curling ribbon or other decorative accent over the wide ribbon and tape in place. Tip - If tape doesn't hold the ribbon on, try using mini ball head needles.
- Create loops with the wire garland and bundle together with the wire garland at the bottom. Cut the unblundled end into loops to resemble firecracker spray and stuff into the tops of the pool noodles.
- This is what it will look like once it's all assembled.
- Here’s an updated 2021 Version. I used one pool noodle to create two smaller firecrackers and added a bit more embellishments. For the tall firecracker, I used red glitter tape to make stripes (hard to see in the photo, but IRL it’s perfect). The middle firecracker has silver spots and the smallest firecracker is decorated with tinsel pipe cleaners. Remember, you can decorate these any way you like, so get creative!

I wanted to let you know I am featuring this great project at #merrymonday this week. I hope you will check it out when you have a chance!
So perfect! I decorate a wheelbarrow for the different seasons and it stands in my yard. These would be perfect for my 4th of July wheelbarrow. I love them!
Your creation is so fun and would be great decor for an outdoor party! Pinned to my new patriotic board!!! Thanks for sharing!
So simple and easy. Brilliant. I posted and pinned and shared with a local craft y group I belong to on FB.
Oh what a fun summer party centerpiece! I love how easy and festive this is! I really like the sparklers theme!
That is so festive and so cute! Would make a wonderful lakeside or poolside decoration too. Pinned.
Erlene, This project is so wonderfully creative! The pool noodles make such a cute firecracker decoration that’s perfect all summer long. Great Dollar Store craft! Pinning!
I picked up some of that star garland when I was at the dollar store. Now I’m going to have to go get some pool noodles to make these! So cute!
These are so cute! What a creative idea. My kids will love these. I even think I have some of the garland left over from the batons the kids made.
What a festive piece! I love how it looks like sparklers! -Marci @ Stone Cottage Adventures
How fun! I love all of the creative ways that those pool noodles can be used. Your firecrackers look great! What a fun addition to patriotic decor!
