It’s another week of Pinterest Tested recipes. This week I tried four recipes – Homemade Calzone, Salmon Pasta, Pizza Pasta Bake, and a Savory Waffle.
Pinterest Tested September Week 3:
Homemade Calzone with Italian sausage and mozzarella @Lovely Little Kitchen
This recipe has over 8,000 pins. There’s one review on the blog, but the person used a pre-made dough and filled it with their own filling? Sounds like they may have totally changed the recipe? Anyway, I followed the dough directions and actually doubled the recipe.
Doubling the recipe allowed us to make 8 very large 6 – 8 inch sized calzones. We did change-up the filling to tomato sauce, pizza blend cheese, mushroom, onions, pepperoni, sausage, and spinach. Then, instead of the egg wash, we brushed on some butter and dill.
The calzones baked up really nice and were filling. The outside dough had a nice crust and the inside was soft and fluffy. The kids enjoyed these a lot and have requested that I make these again.
One Pot Pizza Pasta Bake @Damn Delicious
This recipe has a whopping 28,000+ pins and has several great reviews. I actually followed this recipe exactly. I just changed the type of pasta and cut up regular sized pepperoni. Other than that, all the components are the same.
Overall this recipe was good, not fabulous, but something we could all eat again. What really liked the most about this recipe is that it’s a one pot meal – it’s a good thing when there are less dishes 🙂
Garlic Cream Cheese Fettuccine with Salmon @Tasty Kitchen
This recipe was posted in 2009 and has several great reviews. It’s a little on the heavy side due to the cream cheese sauce, but the flavor is good. The recipe does give you a choice of using heavy cream or milk and I used the milk to lighten it up a bit.
I also used different pasta and added more fresh tomatoes. I think the fresh tomatoes off sets the heavy sauce and it tasted a lot better with the added tomatoes. Definitely don’t skip the tomatoes.
Savory Bacon and Veggie Waffle @Fearlessly Creative Mammas (site no longer running)
Honestly, I’ve never made a savory waffle before. I know…where have I been – right? So when this recipe was linked up to the Merry Monday Link Party #20, I knew I had to try it. For this recipe, I again doubled the batter, but kept the bell pepper amount the same, omitted the green onions (son doesn’t like them), and cut the cheese to 3/4 cup.
Guess what folks? Only two of my kids liked them, but I LOVE them! I can eat them plain…so yummy! I think if I omit the bell peppers and add corn or another veggie that doesn’t have a strong flavor that the kids would love them too.
Those were the recipes that I tried this week. I think overall it was a successful recipe week and I found some great new recipes to add to my meal rotation. What have you tried from Pinterest this week?
What can I say but YUM! 😉
