Hot summer, a hot, hot summer! Keep the heat away with this fun Summer Fruit Christmas Tree.

Summer Fruit Christmas Tree

Summer in the Southern California desert can be brutally hot. It recently hit triple digits and I’m dreading every minute of this hot weather. I’m already missing the cool weather of the fall/winter season and can’t wait for summer to be over. Since summer just started, I can only dream of cooler weather and have joined a few other blogging friends to Celebrate Christmas in July! I’m celebrating with a refreshing Summer Fruit Christmas Tree for a cool summer treat!

For more Christmas in July projects, make sure to scroll to the very end!

Summer Fruit Christmas Tree Dessert

Before you get started with this Summer Fruit Christmas Tree, make sure to prep all the fruits because it makes assembly easier and quicker. If you have kids/teens, this is a great food project to do with them. They can help prep and assemble the fruits and then enjoy the healthy fruit snack after. It’s a win-win!

Celebrate Christmas in July with this fun summer fruit Christmas Tree! Made with grapes, golden kiwi, strawberries, cherries, and blueberries.

Materials

  • 1 large pineappele
  • bag of grapes
  • small basket blueberries
  • basket of small sized strawberries
  • 1 bag of cherries
  • 3 - golden kiwi (cut into small flower or star shapes)
  • optional - coconut flakes

Tools

  • toothpicks
  • knife
  • optional - small flower or star cutter

Instructions

  1. Prep summer fruit Christmas tree fruits To make assembly quicker, wash and prep all the fruit. Cut the top off the strawberries and remove the stems of the cherries. If using kiwi with a shape cutter, cut into 1/4" or slightly thicker slices. Use the shape cutter to make flower/star shapes. If not using a shape cutter, just cut the kiwi into 1/2" cubes (about the size of half a cut grape). Set aside while the pineapple is prepped.
  2. Cut Christmas Tree Shape Pineapple Cut off the outside of the pineapple. Cut the top and bottom to make a flat surface. Lay the pineapple on the side and start to carve it to look like a cone/Christmas tree shape. Sit the pineapple upright and continue to 'shape'. It doesn't have to be perfect, just the general shape as it will be covered in fruit. Place the pineapple onto the serving plate to decorate.
  3. Insert toothpicks into pineaple Insert a toothpick into the top of the pineapple. This will act as a place to hold onto as you add more toothpicks later on. Next, randomly insert toothpicks around the pineapple.
  4. Place large fruits on Summer fruit Christmas tree Place larger fruits onto the toothpicks - strawberries, grapes, and cherries. Continue to add toothpicks and fill in any large open spots with the larger fruits.
  5. Add blueberries to toothpicks To fill in the small spaces, add toothpicks and allow them to protude a bit farther out from the larger fruits. Place blueberries and kiwi onto the toothpicks to hide the smaller spaces.
  6. Summer fruit Christmas tree strawberry topper For the top, insert toothpicks at an upward angle along the top edge to create a grape cradle (other fruits can be substituted) for the topper. Add a large strawberry or other large fruit onto the top and nestle inside of the grape cradle.

Notes

  • Try to add larger sized fruits towards the bottom and the smaller sized fruits towards the top. Example: larger sized grapes and strawberries should be kept towards the bottom.
  • Kiwi's can be cut into small cubes or squares if not using cutters.
  • Try buying smaller sized strawberries to use on the body of the tree. Use the larger sized ones for the topper of the Summer Fruit Christmas Tree.

Yummy! that’s so cool that the base is a pineapple. My kids would love making this so much and it would be a fun healthy snack. I have no idea how you do triple digits.. We had an entire week in the 90s and I couldn’t take it, I just stayed in the AC.
