How to Make Slow Cooker Onion Meatballs
Serves: 4-6
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 6 hours on low or 4 hours on high
Total time: 6 hours and 10 minutes
Step 1. Add the frozen meatballs, onions, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, dijon mustard, oregano, onion powder, garlic, salt, pepper, beef broth, and brown gravy packet mixture to an 8-quart slow cooker.
Step 2. Stir together to combine everything, cover, and cook on low for 6 hours on low OR 4 hours on high. Periodically stir during cooking to ensure all the meatballs are coated in the gravy mixture. Note: If you aren’t able to periodically stir, it will still cook. Stirring just ensures all the meatballs get a chance to cook in the gravy.
Step 3. Optional – The onion meatball gravy makes a great sauce for egg noodles, rice, bread, or mashed potatoes. If you would like to, cook egg noodles, mashed potatoes, or rice according to the package directions to serve with the onion meatballs.
How to Store Leftovers
Refrigerator storage: Place leftover onion meatballs into an airtight container and store for 2-3 days. Reheat in the microwave in a microwave safe container until warmed through.
Freezer storage: Let the meatballs and sacue cool completely. Place in airtight freezer bags, making sure to remove all the air before sealing. Store for up to 2 months. To reheat, place the frozen meatballs into a microwave safe bowl. Place in the microwave on defrost for a few minutes until the meatballs and sauce soften. Then remove and stir. Next, heat in the microwave OR heat on the stove over medium heat (place in a pot) until the meatballs are warmed through. Note: a bit of water may need to be added if reheating on the stove.
