This isn’t the typical bunny bait of chocolate-covered cereal and pretzels. Instead, this bunny bait is bird-friendly and won’t attract a ton of ants or leave a sticky mess in the yard.
How to Use Bird-Friendly Bunny Bait
The idea of this bunny bait is to have the kids sprinkle it throughout the yard in the daytime (hopefully the birds will eat most of the ‘bunny bait’). Then, after the kids go to sleep or early in the morning before they wake, hide plastic eggs throughout the yard as if the Easter bunny came to eat the bait and left some goodies for the kids to enjoy.
How to Make Bunny Bait
Ingredients:
- 3T. Oatmeal, uncooked (quick oats, steel cut, rolled oats)
- 3T. Chia seeds
- 3T. Farro
- 3T. Bulgur
- 2T. Pastel Sprinkles (I like to use Jimmies type sprinkles)
Ingredient Substitutions
If you don’t have all the ingredients, this can be made with one or two ingredients. The main idea is for the kids to have fun and to have something to sprinkle in the yard.
Kitchen + Gift Wrapping Supplies:
- Bowl
- Measuring spoon, 1 tablespoon
- Measuring cup, 1/4 cup
- sealable snack bags or small containers (I use the square snack bags)

- Twine or ribbon
- double-sided tape or a stapler
Step 1. To a bowl, add all the ingredients and stir to combine. Then measure about 1/4 cup into 4-5 bags or use whatever container you want to put it into. Note: the size of the container or package will affect the number of bunny bait gifts.
Step 2. Download and print the Bunny Bait gift tags on cardstock. Cut out and follow the directions for each size tag. Punch a hole in the tag with a hole punch and attach it to the bags or containers using tape or ribbon.
