St. Patrick’s Day Wall Art

Can you believe it’s already March? Yesterday, I posted a roundup of St. Patrick’s Day home decor crafts from fellow bloggers. We don’t really make a big deal out of St. Patrick’s Day, but I still like to sprinkle a little green around the house. It’s kind of a nice change from the reds and pinks of February :-). So today, I’m going to share my St. Patrick’s Day wall art.

SUPPLIES

•  green paper or card stock
• plastic gold coins (I got mine from the Dollar Store)
• black felt
• pot printable -get it here
• pencil
• black Sharpie or black felt pen
• chalk or white fabric pencil
• small paint brush
• Mod Podge
• poly-fil or cotton balls
• scissors
• glue gun
• four colors of glitter
• shadow box  frame 

First, print out the pot of gold template here (don’t laugh, it’s my free hand drawing).

Cut out the pot, following the solid black lines.

Cut your green card stock to fit inside of your frame. This will be the background for the art.

 You should now have a cut out pot and the paper with the cut out. 

The next step is to trace the pot onto the black felt using the chalk or white fabric pencil.

There are two ways to do this (I did it the second way to get a more symmetrical pot) – 1. Place the cut out pot onto your black felt, secure with a pin, and trace around the pot. Cut along chalk lines. 2. Fold the paper with the cut out and the black felt in half. Place the middle of the cut out paper on the folded edge of the felt (see picture above). Trace inside of the cut out. Pin the felt pieces together and cut along chalk lines.

Next, using the template as a guide, trace the upper lip of the pot onto the felt with chalk. To open up the pot, cut along the middle line, stopping about 3/8″ from the edges.

Take a black Sharpie or black felt tip pen and trace along the lower lip of the pot – this will help define the lip of the pot.

I couldn’t take a picture of the next step because you have to work fast. So before you start, do a dry placement of  where you would like the pot. Make sure you leave enough room around the edges for the picture frame.

You’ll have to run a very thin line of glue along the outer edges of the pot only and quickly place it on your green card stock. ** DO NOT seal the opening of the pot**

Next, place a small amount of poly-fil into the opening of the pot. The card stock will curl a bit, but that’s okay. It will flatten out when placed in the frame.

Now, take a pencil and draw a rainbow coming out of the pot. You can make it as many colors as you want – I chose to do four stripes.

Using the paint brush, fill in one of the stripes with Mod Podge and pour glitter on it. Shake the excess off and let it dry. Repeat this process until you have filled in all your rainbow stripes.

Decide how you would like to place the gold coins and glue them down. Make sure you leave enough room around the edges for the picture frame.

Place in shadow box frame and hang.
