If you live in California, you know that Californians are facing one of the worst droughts on record. For the most part, making small changes to conserve water has been fairly easy – full loads of laundry, shorter showers, leak repairs, and reusing sink water for our plants. However, living in the desert and cutting back on watering our lawn has been more challenging. So when I was chosen to receive a sample of Scotts® EveryDrop™ water maximizer, I was over-the-moon excited to give it a try.
Why am I so excited? Well, our Governor has asked Californians to reduce our overall water use by 25%, but cutting back on watering in the desert hasn’t been kind to our lawn. The hot California days have made our lawn soil dry, compact, and hard. In turn, much of the sprinkler water doesn’t penetrate the soil and runs off into the gutter – not what we want.
The new uses a unique blend of wetting agents that helps move water through hard soil and ensures it reaches the plant roots – where it’s needed the most. As you can see from the photos, we desperately needed the help of lawn care.
Taking advantage of the free weekend labor, I had my son help me spread the over the entire lawn with aspreader. Applying the water maximizer was really easy and took about 10 minutes to do the entire front and back lawns. Now my lawn is ready to take on the California drought and I feel better knowing that I’m making use of every drop of water.

I’ve been seeing all about your California drought on the news for months! It must be awful. Our grass here in Alabama almost always looks like it’s in the middle of a drought though….gotta love that Bermuda grass (not really). Glad this is helping you out!
It’s is so important to help where we can with the drought. We do our water early in the morning or late at night.

Fortunately we have had a lot of rain here in Florida and we are not dry now, but there are times we have been and next time I will look for Scotts Every Drop!
Try using Revive lawn products – they have been around since the early 70’s and their products are great!
Not only does Revive save water (30%) but it also turns your lawn green which everybody wants!
Never heard of Revive. Will look into it too.

It is great that products are being made to help homeowners in super dry areas to still have nice lawns. I could have definitely used some of this last summer.

Getting a rain barrel really helps us with cutting down on water use in the yard. Of course, that doesn’t really help during a drought does it?
I’m going to tell my husband about this product. We live in California and have pretty much pulled out our whole lawn and put in drought-resistant plants.
When we had a drought in our area, we used a lot of these tips. I hope SoCal gets some rain soon!
I can’t imagine trying to maintain a lawn during a drought. I would be ready to rip out all the dead grass and plant succulents or other desert loving plants.
Here we have our sprinkler set on a timer. It waters every 4 hours for 10 minutes 3 times a day and we have a lush beautiful yard. Hope you guys get some rain soon!!
We have an irrigation system but it is not helping right now. The heat has been horrid!
It is great that there are products like this to help reduce your water consumption. We’ve adopted a more natural landscape at our house with less grass to maintain or water.
es, it’s great that this product is finally available to the home market. We don’t have a very large lawn area, but I am looking into planting succulents. My SIL has already pulled out an entire area of her landscape to conserve water.

I will have to share this with my friends out West! I know that California has had it rough with the lack of rain. Fortunately this isn’t the case in Cincinnati.

We all expected a hosepipe ban in England after a ridiculously warm summer so I well know how you must be feeling. It seems like a great product for all year round too… anything to save a bit of water
I didn’t even realize CA was in a drought this year. These are helpful tips for people out west.
This is our fourth year in a severe drought. All Californians have been asked to reduce overall water usage by 25% and outdoor usage by 50%. It’s really terrible and many lakes are going dry.
It has been bad here in California. We water in the morning, and use mulch in the planters. It really does make a difference. These are great tips, Erlene. El Nino will be good for us this winter, as long as it’s not too much at once…

It’s been terrible and our lawn is nice and crunchy…lol. I sure hope we have some good winter rains.
Looks like a great product! We are SO waterlogged in Florida right now it’s not even funny. When I’m president, forget the oil pipeline – I’m making a water pipeline from Florida to California!

It’s been dry here this summer, but nothing like California. I use Scott’s to fertilize my lawn in the spring, but I didn’t know about the Every Drop. I’ll be sure and look for it. These are great tips, too!
It’s so bad here. My poor neighbor has stopped watering and has an almost fully brown lawn.
