DIY-Valentine's-Day-Glass- Make glass clings from glue and paint Need an easy Valentine’s Day decoration that you can do with the kids? How about making Valentine’s Day glass clings from glue and puff paints?  20150111_154407

There are a few ways to make glass clings, but I’ll show you the technique I used.

Supplies:

  • Elmer’s Glue
  • 3D Paint (optional)
  • toothpick
  • plastic or glass (saran wrap or plastic page protector)
  • tape
  • printed template (optional)

First, you’ll need a surface to paint on. For my surface, I taped Saran wrap down to my table or you can use plastic page protectors. If you need a template to follow (I did free-hand hearts on a paper template), print out a simple heart template and place it under the plastic or in the page protector*. If I could do this again, I would use the plastic page protector because it’s hard to get the Saran wrap smooth and tight.

*If I could do this again, I would use the plastic page protector or flat glass surface (glass out of an unused frame and lay it flat) because it’s hard to get the Saran wrap smooth and tight. Plus, any ripple in the Saran wrap will show in the finished product.

20150112_142602Next, create the outline shape of your heart. I used the 3D paint* for the outline. Let this dry for about an hour and then fill in with the glue. The outline will still be wet, so be careful not to smudge it when filling in with the glue. If any air bubbles appear, use the toothpick to pop them.

Let the clings dry for 24-48 hours before removing. The Elmer’s glue will start to turn transparent when it is completely dried. Once the clings have dried, peel off and stick to your glass surface.

Tip: To remove the cling from the Saran wrap, make sure to pull the wrap taught and start lifting it up at one corner.

*3D Paint dries faster than glue. If you are in a rush, use 3D Paint.
Window-Cling-Cake-StandOur Valentine’s Day glass clings ended up on our cake stand. Now, even when it’s empty, it will still look pretty sitting out on my counter.
