Have you heard of the famous Trader Joe’s Everything But the Bagel seasoning, but don’t have access to a TJ? No, problem! Here’s a recipe that will show you how to make Everything Bagel Seasoning mix at home!
I live near a Trader Joe’s mart, so it’s easy for me to go out and buy the famous ‘Everything But The Bagel’ seasoning. But truth be told, the location near me is in a strip mall and has THE worst parking. The spaces are narrow, it’s always super crowded, and I end up fighting for parking way out in the boonies! It’s to the point where I only go to TJ during the holiday season to buy gifts to send to Hawaii (no TJ). It’s crazy I tell ya! If you live near a TJ, is it like this for you too?
Anyway, I think it’s been 2 years since my family fell in love with TJ’s Everything But The Bagel seasoning. My family loves using it on bell peppers with cream cheese. My girls especially love using it on avocado egg toast. Of course, this seasoning can also be used as a vegetable seasoning, on fish, in potato hash, on bagels, and so much more!
Everything Bagel Ingredients
The ingredients to make Everything Bagel seasoning should be available in your local market. If not, I’ve linked the ingredients that are available to purchase on Amazon. Purchases made through these links may result in a small earnings for My Pinterventures at no additional cost to you. Thank you!
Flake Sea Salt – Maldon Sea Salt Flakes (surprisingly it’s cheaper on Amazon than in my grocery store). Do not substitute with coarse sea salt as this will be like eating small rocks. Flake sea salt will melt in your mouth.
Minced Garlic – try mixing in some toasted garlic too
Kitchen Items Needed
Nothing fancy is needed and you probably already have the kitchen tools needed to make this Everything Bagel seasoning mix.
Airtight storage container – The seasoning can be kept in any airtight container, even a resealable bag.

How to make your own Everything But The Bagel Seasoning mix for bagels, toast, eggs, hash, salads, and more! See notes for tips.
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 T. minced garlic
- 2 T. minced onions
- 2 T. white roasted sesame seeds
- 1 1/2 T. black roasted sesame seeds
- 3 tsp. poppy seeds
- 1 1/2 tsp. Maldon flake sea salt (add 2 tsp. if you prefer more salt)
Instructions
- Put all the ingredients in a small mixing bowl. Stir until everything is evenly blended. Place in an airtight container or bag. Store for up to 6 months.
Notes
- Do not substitute flake sea salt for coarse sea salt. Coase sea salt is chunky and rock like, while flake sea salt will give you a light crunch and melt in the mouth.
- If you are not sure if the sesame seeds are roasted, you can roast the seeds in a non-stick pan over medium heat for 3-5 minutes. Some of the seeds may 'pop', so place a splatter screen over the pan if you have it.
- Amounts of ingredients can be adjusted to your taste. For example, if you prefer more sesame seeds or a more pronounced garlic flavor, increase those amounts. You can even add additional spices to your liking.
