Fortune Cookie Pillow

Giant Fortune Cookie Pillow tutorial. An easy sewing project and fun teen craft.

Supplies:

  • 1 yd. tan felt
  • brown thread and white thread
  • sewing machine
  • scissors
  • pins
  • fiberfill
  • white fabric
  • red and black permanent marker
  • red 3D fabric puff paint
  • glitter (optional)
  • fabric marker or pencil

Instructions:

Cut fortune cookie pillow

Fold the tan felt in half. Mark a semi-circle on the fold. Pin along the inside of your markings to keep the felt from shifting. Cut out the semi-circle.

The size of the circle will determine your finished product. For my giant fortune cookie, I cut a semi-circle to 17″ at the largest point.

Fortune cookie pillow sewn line

Mark a vertical line on the center of the pillow. One the line, Pin a 1 1/2″ space about 1/2″ from the fold. Sew between the pins and remove the all the pins.

fortune cookie pillow shape

Open the circle with the sewn bump showing. Bring the edges together to form the cookie shape (the bump will now be on the inside). Sew a 1/4″ seam along the edges, leaving a 5-6″ opening for stuffing.

Stuff the pillow until you get the shape and firmness you desire. If you do not wish to add a fortune cookie message, sew the pillow shut. If you wish to add a fortune cookie message, continue on.

fortune cookie pillow tag

Cut two 4″ x  8″ pieces of white woven fabric. Mark the center about 1/2″ above the short edge and draw a triangle to this marking. Sew 1/4″ seam along the sides and the drawn lines. Flip the tag inside out, so the raw edges are on the inside.

Insert a thick paper or cardboard into the tag to prevent bleed through. Use a fabric marker or pencil to draw your message. Go over it with permanent pen or fabric paint.

I used 3D puff paint to add a dimensional heart and added glitter to it while it was wet. Let this completely dry for a minimum of 24 hours and shake off excess glitter.

Insert the tag in the opening of the pillow and sew shut. Now, it’s ready to display!

Update: This is for decorative and display purposes only. Prolonged rubbing on the felt can cause it to pill.
